In family counselling, LEFÖ offers support in social, health and legal matters related to family issues and problems. Family counselling is primarily offered in the following areas: Violence in the family, complex conflicts in bicultural partnerships, dependencies in marriage, the consequences of divorce, custody and psychosomatic problems.
The effects of migration processes, which are reflected in family structures as well as on a cultural and traditional level, are also addressed.
In legal counselling, the most frequent topics are marriage and family law, residence and settlement law, labour law and housing law.
In the medical advice, somatic and psychovegetative complaints as well as anxiety disorders and symptoms of overstrain are treated, but also questions about pregnancy, contraception and general medical illnesses are clarified. Furthermore, networking and referral to specific health care facilities takes place.
With § 95 (1a) AußStrG, which was introduced by the 2013 Kindschafts- und Namensrechtsänderungs-Gesetz, parents must seek counselling from a counsellor or institution recognised by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs and Youth “on the specific needs of their minor resulting from the divorce” prior to an amicable settlement of the divorce consequences in court.
The psychological counseling is aimed to Spanish and Portuguese speaking migrants who suffer from severe psychological problems and stresses due to their migration process and/or are affected by psychological and physical violence, as well as women* who are in psychosocial crises or in mourning processes.
The psychological counseling is limited in time and content, women* specific approaches are applied.
The counseling is based on a “here and now” approach, clarifying, supporting, guiding and symptom-oriented. The Psychological counseling is supplemented on a case-by-case basis by accompaniment, intervention and telephone counseling, as well as by group work and workshops on targeted, specific topics.
The Social counseling ranges from one-time telephone consultations and inquiries via email to longer-term personal counseling and support, depending on the need and adapted to the situation in which the woman* finds herself.
The different types of counseling correspond to the different needs and problems of the women*. They range from concrete information, e.g. on questions of alien law, to intensive counseling and support in certain stages of the migration process.
For questions that require deeper specialization, women* can seek psychological, medical or legal advice.
