What is trafficking in women?
Have you ever wondered whether trafficking in women and girls also happens in plain sight? Why does it so often stay invisible? Do you know what support is available for people affected by it? Where might exploitation, and possible signs of trafficking, become visible in an urban neighborhood?
The LEFÖ Intervention Center for Trafficked Women is opening its doors to the Josefstadt neighborhood and invites you to three free events for dialogue and discussion on trafficking in women and girls. We want to show Josefstadt residents how professional expertise can grow into real civic engagement, and to create space together for meeting, information and exchange.
When?

Event 1: Recognizing Trafficking – The Basics and How to Respond
What is trafficking in women? What does exploitation look like? What different forms of exploitation exist?
The first event gives you a solid grounding in trafficking as a form of gender-based violence. We’ll talk about the different forms of exploitation, their backgrounds, and how they affect women and girls who experience them.
We’ll also look at the question: what can we actually recognize? You’ll get insight into the work of the LEFÖ Intervention Center for Trafficked Persons and learn about the protection and support services that are available.

Event 2: Look Closer Rather than Away – Trafficking and Exploitation in Everyday Life, Based on Real Life Examples
Where can exploitation become visible in everyday city life? Which observations should make us take notice, and what can I do if I’m worried about a woman? The focus is on possible signs of exploitation and how we perceive them in daily life, for example in connection with organized begging or labor exploitation. Using practical examples, we’ll talk about how exploitation can show itself and how to handle suspicions responsibly.
The goal is not to turn residents into investigators or to replace professional responsibilities. It’s about feeling confident in how to act: being able to make sense of what you’ve observed, knowing your own limits, and knowing when and where to turn to a specialized organization.

Event 3: An Attentive Josefstadt – The Role of Civil Society
Why do awareness, solidarity and shared responsibility matter for protecting particularly vulnerable women? And what can a local community contribute?
To close the series, we’ll look at the role of neighbors and civil society: how can we work together to spot exploitation early? We’ll talk about equality, social responsibility, and how residents can help build an attentive and inclusive community in Josefstadt.
